Start With the Human (a.k.a. user-obsessed).
If it doesn’t solve a real person’s problem, it’s just pixels. We look for people who chase insights, not assumptions; who ask “what job is this design doing for the user?” and can defend choices with evidence. Research consistently links customer-centred practices with better outcomes—even big-company leaders say a unified view of the customer is critical (most still don’t have it, which is why it’s a superpower when you do).
Be Safe to Be Bold (psychological safety + kind candour).
We want brave ideas and honest feedback without the eye-rolls. The best teams aren’t the ones with the fanciest résumés—they’re the ones where people feel safe to speak up, question decisions and learn out loud. Google’s multi-year “Project Aristotle” found psychological safety to be the top factor in team effectiveness.
Own It, Ship It, Iterate (bias for action + accountability).
We hire people who run toward outcomes, not meetings. Decide with the best data you’ve got, ship small, learn fast. Studies show that faster decisions tend to correlate with better ones—and that empowering the people closest to the work improves speed and quality.
Always Be Learning (craft, kaizen, and curiosity).
Great design is a moving target. We value folks who keep sharpening their tools—critiques, A/Bs, accessibility checks, and those nerdy little experiments that make tomorrow’s work cleaner than today’s. The “learning organisation” playbook (psych safety + concrete learning processes) and simple cycles like PDCA are proven ways to improve quality over time; diverse, inclusive teams also boost creativity and innovation.
